Assignment 3: Monogram (Process)

After all of us have decided on the word for our style, we started on our sketches. I did quite a number of sketches throughout the week and showed the lecturer. These are the sketches that I have made with my initial, which was SJY:

As you can see, most of the colours that I have used in my sketches are pastel colours such as mint, lavender and baby blue.

Ms Lisa said the sketch in the middle fits my style a lot and asked me to expand my ideas for that particular design and I did.

This is the outcome of the design in the picture above this one. I added in a bow, making it look more elegant and soft.

After getting the lecturer's approval to continue on after the sketches, we started cutting our designs on transparent plastic, also known as making a stencil:

I made 2 sizes and after they were done, I started to do the monogram on paper as practice. I used spray paints of different colours for these:

After a few practices, I started doing the monogram on different items. As for the one in this picture below, I used an A3 sized art block for my poster.

We were required to stencil onto 6 items, minimum. My friends and I went out together to get all the items that we need for this assignment. Basically, we had fun while doing our assignment, which was a really good experience and we also made many new memories. Other than that, we also need to make another 2 monograms. One is a poster while the other is a repetition of the monogram.
Assignment 3: Monogram (Lecture)

A new week, a new assignment. For this assignment, we were required to design a logo out of our initials. It also have to be in our own style and think of only a word that best describes it. We all sat together and discussed with one another, including Ms Lisa, and talk about what our style is. When Ms Lisa asked about my style, I did not know what to reply as I myself was not sure about it. She also said it is usually like this, the person itself would not know what their style is until someone tell them about it then they will realise and understand their style in art. I showed Ms Lisa the types of designs that I found interesting from the book that I used as reference and she said it is very 'me'. That was how 'elegant' became my style and I am grateful that she has pointed that out to me.

This is a picture of the design that I used as a reference for my monogram design:

Assignment 1: Unconventional Self Portrait (Presentation)

As usual, we pasted our self portraits all around the glass wall of the classroom. Due to my self portrait being a sculpture, I held it during my presentation. For those who drew on paper or anything else that was flat, was pasted onto the glass wall.

This is the outcome of my structure:

I used an egg to symbolise myself because an egg is fragile and it breaks easily. It does not break when it is held carefully, but when it drops, it cracks and breaks apart. It represents my outer wall, my comfort zone, a barrier that I put myself in. However, along the way of growing up, I met people of different backgrounds and mindsets. I thought everything was rainbows and unicorns and I let my 'wall' down. Everything was fine until they show their true nature, their real personalities that they have been hiding all these time. I felt like I was being lied to, been betrayed and I had all these mixed emotions that I could not comprehend. Then I truly realised that there are always people out there that are not or will never be comfortable and friendly towards you. As I would always say, we can't please everyone. Therefore, incidents happen and friendships were lost and there was no turning back. I do not even want to go back to how it was because those people that I met was not true friends. Therefore, I made a cracked egg as it shows that my barrier was broken, and can never be fixed. However, after all that I have been through, it has also made me stronger. My mind is able to accept all these that has happened and made it into life lessons for myself so that I would not be faced with the same situation ever again. That is why I put a ping pong ball in the egg and you can see it when you open up the egg. A ping pong ball is not as fragile and as easily broken as an egg. It shows that although you were hurt and broken, but you still learnt something from it and moved on to be someone stronger.

I splattered some shades of brown on top of the egg as part of the detail. An egg is not entirely one colour, therefore I made some little dot-looking designs on it.

These are some of the artworks that my classmates have produced for this assignment:

Final Assignment - Charity Sale

For our Business class' finals, we need to do a charity sale in campus for a week.

We made our own poster for the charity sale:

All of the 5 Ps that we have learnt in class were decided by ourselves. My group consist of Shukie, Wei Yi, Seen Ying, Kuai Bing and myself. My group was selling notebooks, laptop sticker, anime stickers, phone covers and popsicles. All of our products can be requested, meaning they can have any design the customer desires except for the popsicles, of course. Moreover, all of the profits that we earned throughout this charity sale goes to charity. We chose to donate the money to the SPCA. These are some pictures of out products that we were selling throughout the week of the charity sale and a video about our product and packaging: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7MqW6H_V3p8&feature=youtu.be

Handmade phone cover templates.

Requested laptop sticker.

Bunch of anime stickers.

Notebooks of 2 sizes, A4 and A5.

Popsicles.

Totoro laptop sticker.

Dreamcatcher laptop sticker.

Ribcage laptop sticker.

We chose a location where there is more air ventilation because our requested phone covers includes spray painting it, if the customers want it. The smell of the spray paint is very strong that some people dislikes it. We put out some examples of our products on the table to attract by-passers.

These are some pictures of us preparing our products:

We promoted our products by having 2 members of my group to wear Rilakkuma onesies and walk around the first and second floor of the campus. Other than that, the 2 of them also bring along the donation box. However, there are more people who wanted to take pictures of them rather than donating. These are some pictures of the 2 Rilakkuma walking around and promoting and a video about our promotions that we have done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_V09JW-jNo&feature=youtu.be

Some of the customers does not want the packaging because they wanted to either stick the laptop stickers onto their laptop or put on their new phone covers straight away. These are some of the packagings for our products:

Last but not least, we have made a total profit of RM1813.20 by the end of the charity sale. After donating the money to them, the people in charge gave us a tour around the SPCA and we also played with the animals there. Here are some pictures of when we went to the SPCA and donated it to the organisation ourselves and a video about our journey to the SPCA: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBmHZoRW5Bs&feature=youtu.be

REFLECTION
I have to admit that it is really fun and we did enjoy ourselves throughout the charity sale. Although it was very tiring but we have learned a lot and gained lots of experience that some of us may never have the chance to experience. However, if I was given another chance to do this, I would not want to. Besides that, my most favourite part of the whole charity sale is the part when I am needed to decorate and design requested items.

Introduction to Business - Accounting

This picture shows the control process in a simple chart.

Accounting:
- Records all the transactions such as buying or selling of a business.
- Summarising the records into a report so that people can read them easily to make relevant decisions.

Accounting is also useful for evaluating business performance. It is also used for discharging accountability. The picture below shows the purpose of accounting:

The Income Statement is a summarised results of a business, also known as the Profit and Loss Statement. This is how profit and loss are counted:

However, that was just a very simple one. A proper income statement would contain more information compared to the one above:
